The Northampton County Sheriff’s Department has received reports of a caller identifying himself as a Northampton County Sheriff’s Deputy who was contacting residents wanted for failing to appear before the grand jury. The caller then gives instructions to visit Giant Food Stores, put money in a kiosk at the store or be arrested.

The Sheriff’s Department was also notified of a second scam call. The caller, identified as Northampton County Sheriff Deputy Boss, stated that a family member had been arrested and they had to give them money to get him out of jail.

The public should be aware that this is a scam. The Northampton County Sheriff’s Department does not call residents or ask for money in lieu of arrest.
