MLB to punish referee Pat Hoberg after sports betting investigation

Major League Baseball plans to punish umpire Pat Hoberg following an investigation into possible sports insurance policy violations.

In a news release on Friday, the commissioner’s office said Hoberg is committed to revoking the sentence. MLB has not disclosed the nature of the violation or the extent of the penalty.

“Although MLB’s investigation did not reveal any evidence that the video games used by Mr. Hoberg had been tampered with or used in any way, MLB determined that self-discipline applied. Mr. Hoberg has chosen to take that call. Therefore, we cannot make any further comments until the attraction. We are being called upon. The journey has been completed,” the statement said.

MLB stated that it began investigating Hoberg during spring coaching this year and that he was away from the sphere while the investigation is still ongoing.

The 37-year-old Hoberg directed his first major league match in 2014 and was added to the full-time squad in 2017. He achieved an ideal mark in batting and batting while working at home plate in Game 2 of the 2022 World Series. between the Houston Astros and the Philadelphia Phillies.

Hoberg was also a champion in the 2023 World Baseball Classic and was chosen to step up to the plate for the “Field of Dreams Game” in August 2021. That was the premier major league sport played in Iowa, where he grew up.

Before becoming a major player, Hoberg played in the minors working in the Pacific Coast League, Texas League and Florida State League, between several stops.
