UH Trio heading to U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials

INDIANAPOLIS – Three University of Hawaii swimmers will take to the pool this weekend to compete in the U.S. Olympic Team Trials at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Timothy Gallagherwho completed his UH career this spring, qualified for the men’s 100 and 200 meter backstroke and rising senior trials Dietrich Meijer is registered for the 50 meter freestyle. Senior Kathryn Ivanov will represent the Rainbow Wahine in the women’s 100 meter breaststroke.

Ivanov is seeded 26the among the 81 participants in the women’s 100 breaststroke with a start time of 1:09.00. Gallagher will also compete in the men’s 100 meters as the 62 on SundayNL seed among 79 swimmers with a running time of 55.58 seconds. The preliminaries begin Sunday at 5 a.m., Hawaii time. The top 16 will advance to the semi-finals of the event later in the day. The finals of both events are scheduled for Monday.

Gallagher returns to the pool on Wednesday June 19 for the 200 meter backstroke as a 58e seed with a time of 2:01.31. The semi-finals will be played in the evening session and the finals will be played on Thursday.

Meyer closes the week for the ‘Bows as the 55e placed at 88 in the men’s 50 freestyle with an entry time of 22.64 seconds. The preliminary rounds are scheduled for Thursday morning, followed by the semi-finals and the final on Friday.

Qualifying heats will be streamed on Peacock, semifinals will air on USA Network and event finals will air on NBC and Peacock.

The trio helped UH win the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s and women’s swimming and diving championships in February, claiming all-conference honors in 12 events including.

A dual citizen, Ivanov also competed in the Canadian Olympic Trials in May and qualified for the A-Final of the 100 breaststroke, where he placed eighth with a time of 1:10.16. Justin Lisowaythis season as a senior with the Rainbow Warriors, also placed eighth in the men’s 100 breaststroke (1:03.37)

Jordan Meacham competed in the Australian Trials on June 11 and turned 34e in a field of 68 swimmers in the 50 meter freestyle with a time of 23.15 seconds.

In April, Karol Ostrowski placed fourth in the 50 free (22.28 seconds) and eighth in the 100 free (49.77) at the Polish National Championships. Ostrowski and Jakub Ksiazek won gold in the 4×100 freestyle relay and Ksiazek finished ninth in the 50 freestyle. Sophomore Rainbow Wahine Zofia Tyminska won gold in the 200 individual medley (2:18.07) and silver in the 200 breaststroke (2:32.31).
