Kahului man in critical condition after near-fatal crash

HONOLULU (KHON2) – A 65-year-old Maui pedestrian is fighting for his life after being involved in a near-fatal collision with a motor vehicle in Kahului.

According to Maui Police, the incident happened just before 9:30 a.m. Friday at the intersection of Pakaula Street and Ho’okele Street.


According to reports, the man was walking in a marked crosswalk on Pakaula Street when he was struck by a white 2019 Ford F250 Transit.

The 54-year-old Kihei driver was attempting to turn right from Ho’okele Street when the incident occurred, immediately stopped and waited for police to arrive.

MPD revealed that the pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries. EMS transported the man to the Maui Memorial Medical Center emergency room where he is in critical condition.

The Ford driver and her 13-year-old female passenger were reportedly uninjured.
