Charles Barkley announces his retirement from television after the 2024-2025 NBA season

Amid rumors of a possible shift in NBA broadcast rights, TNT broadcaster Charles Barkley announced his retirement.

Former NBA player and multiple Emmy winner Charles Barkley made the announcement after Game 4 of the NBA Finals and hinted at the possibility of his departure last month when rumors surfaced that TNT would lose the NBA rights.

He expressed his gratitude to the NBA family and mentioned passing the baton to Jamal Crawford, Vince Carter or Steve Smith.

Barkley’s retirement comes at a time of uncertainty for TNT, with much speculation that NBC could acquire the NBA’s broadcast rights.

The Hall of Famer had previously expressed concerns about potential job losses at the network if the deal went through.

In Game 4 of the 2024 NBA Finals, the Dallas Mavericks earned a win against the Boston Celtics, who still lead the series 3–1.
