Hockey India names a likely 40-member core group for the national junior coaching camp

Hockey India on Saturday announced a core group of 40 players for a 63-day national junior coaching camp to be held at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) from June 16.

This camp follows the Indian junior men’s team’s European tour, where it played five matches against Belgium, Germany and Dutch club team Breda Hockey Association Push from May 20 to 29.

During the tour, India recorded a 2-2 (4-2 SO) win against Belgium in their first match but lost 2-3 in the second match against the same opponent. They faced a narrow 5-4 defeat against the Breda Hockey Association.

Against Germany, India were defeated 2-3 in the first match, but won 1-1 (3-1 SO) in the return match, which was also the last match of the tour.

The upcoming camp, led by coach Janardhana CB and supervised by HI’s high performance director Herman Kruis, ends on August 18.

Janardhana said: “We have a talented group of players and the intensive training will help them reach their full potential. Our goal is to develop a cohesive and formidable team that is ready to take on any challenge.”
