Anand Mahindra on Pakistan’s elimination from the ICC T20 World Cup: “That’s really cruel…”

The US team completed the group stage of the T20 World Cup on Friday, June 15, after the match against Ireland was canceled due to heavy rain in Lauderhill; eliminating former champions Pakistan from the tournament. Friday’s match was one of the most watched as the fate of India’s arch-rivals Pakistan depended on it. The cancellation of the match meant that both teams (the USA and Ireland) received one point. The US finished the group competition with five points from four matches and Pakistan can get a maximum of four points even if they win their final match against Ireland.

The chances of the match taking place on Friday were always bleak as the state of Florida, where Lauderhill is located, was hit by a tropical thunderstorm, causing incessant rainfall and flash flooding.

USA started the tournament with a convincing win over Canada chasing nearly 200 runs, shocking Pakistan in one of the biggest upsets of the T20 World Cup.
