Lagos partners with KUO Fire Safety, others for international fire safety conference – Guardian Nigeria News

To increase fire safety awareness and preparedness in Lagos State, KUO Fire Safety Limited and Prime Atlantic Safety Services have announced their sponsorship of the inaugural Lagos International Fire Safety Conference.

The organizations announced the development in Ikeja on Thursday in a joint statement with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service. Organized by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the event aims to bring together relevant stakeholders in government and the private sector to collaborate, brainstorm and strategize to combat fire disasters and its devastating impact on both the lives as well as the property of Lagosians.
The conference, which will take place from June 25 to 27 at the Federal Palace Hotel, Lagos, will feature a series of workshops, seminars and exhibitions focusing on the latest developments in fire safety technology, best practices and regulatory standards.

The Director of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, said the Lagos International Fire Safety Conference 1.0 is very important considering its potential impact on fire incident management in Lagos State and the nation as a whole.
“The Lagos International Fire Safety Conference represents a crucial opportunity for us to raise fire safety standards across the state and beyond,” she said.
Building on the theme of the conference, “Stakeholder Collaboration: A Panacea to Incessant Fire Disasters in Lagos”, Adeseye urged all stakeholders to embrace the conference and chart a course for fire safety management in Nigeria’s commercial nerve center.

“In 2021, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service received 1,195 emergency calls, found 76 deaths and N11.95 billion worth of estimated property lost to fire and related incidents. In 2023, the number of emergency calls received rose to 2,537, with 82 casualties and an estimated value of N25.37 billion worth of property lost with attendant environmental impacts.

“While we are aware that as human efforts continue with the state’s ever-growing population in size and economy, we cannot take away the daunting challenges we have overcome. However, there is a need for a new strategy, rethink and several new approaches to do things differently as this is not sustainable within the current status quo.

“Hence, the conference, which will include a workshop, seminar, panel discussion, networking and expo, would be declared open by the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu,” the statement read in part.

The Chief Operating Officer of KUO Fire Safety, Terak Marabe, disclosed that the company came on board as Gold Sponsor of the conference to underline its commitment to promoting fire safety in Lagos State and Nigeria at large.
“KUO Fire Safety is proud to be a sponsor of this crucial event. Fire safety is a collective responsibility, and through this conference we want to foster stronger partnerships and advance forward-thinking solutions that will benefit our communities. Together we can create a safer environment for everyone,” said Marabe.

Managing Director of Prime Atlantic Safety Services, Folake Soyannwo, said the organization is pleased to identify with and support the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service to protect lives and property in the state.
“We at Prime Atlantic Safety Services are committed to promoting a safety-focused culture through education and innovative approaches. Our partnership with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service for this conference is in line with our mission to protect lives and property. We are eagerly looking forward to exchanging knowledge with fellow industry leaders and showcasing our expertise.” she said.
