Rehabilitation of minor bridge on Jakhama NH-02 Kohima Mao Road completed, vehicular traffic restrictions to be lifted from June 16

The Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, Kumar Ramnikant IAS, has announced the completion of restoration work on the Minor Bridge at Chainage KM 200+950 on Jakhama NH-02 Kohima Mao Road. The bridge suffered significant damage during the torrential rains caused by Cyclone REMAL on May 28, causing serious safety issues for vehicular traffic.

In response to the damage, traffic restrictions for all types of vehicles were imposed from May 29, the same day restoration work began. After a partial restoration, restrictions on light motor vehicles (LMVs) were relaxed on 3 June.

By June 14, critical repairs were completed, including concreting the sanded foundation, strengthening the abutment RRM wall, and extending the Bailey Crips from the center of the structure to the bottom of the stream. Now that restoration work has been completed and a technical report confirms the bridge’s usability, all vehicle traffic restrictions will be lifted from June 16.

However, as a precautionary measure, heavy motor vehicles (HMVs) will be allowed to cross the bridge one at a time with a speed limit of 20 kmph until June 20.
