Three women killed in a landslide in Odisha’s Koraput

Koraput: At least three women were killed on Saturday after a murram dump collapsed on them on the banks of Kolab Dam in Koraput district.

The deceased have been identified as Purni Badnaik, 18, Sanmati Jani, 17, and Champa Badnayak, 18, from nearby Salmanguda village.

The accident occurred when the women had gone to the hill to dig murram for a temple near Kolab dam at Kerenga panchayat under Koraput block. A sudden landslide occurred and the three women died after being buried under the dump.

After being informed, a 19-member team of Koraput Sadar police, fire brigade personnel and ODRAF personnel rushed to the spot and launched a search operation. The bodies were recovered and sent to the SLN Medical College and Hospital, Koraput, for post-mortem. Koraput Sadar police also initiated investigation into the incident.

Sub-Collector Benudhar Shabar announced financial assistance of Rs 20,000 to the bereaved families from the district Red Cross Fund.
