MTMC honors blood donors on World Blood Donor Day

Event celebrates two decades of lifesaving donations

Manipal Tata Medical College (MTMC) celebrated World Blood Donor Day, recognizing the contributions of blood donors and promoting the importance of donating blood.

JAMSHEDPUR – MTMC organized a vibrant event to celebrate World Blood Donor Day, focusing on the theme ‘Celebrating 20 Years of Giving’.

The ceremony began with the lighting of a ceremonial lamp by key figures, including Dr. G Pradeep Kumar, Dean of MTMC, and Dr. Maheshwar Prasad, Head of Outreach at MTMC.

Also present were Nalini Rammurthy of Jamshedpur Blood Bank and Rotary Club, who served as chief guest, along with Ravindar Duggal, Joint Secretary of Jamshedpur Blood Bank, Sunil Mukherji, Honorary Chairman of Jamshedpur Blood Bank, and Mamta Priyadarshi, IFS – DFO Jamshedpur, who attended as guests of honor.

These leaders emphasized the critical role of voluntary blood donation.

Nalini Rammurthy expressed deep gratitude to the volunteers, noting that “one donation can potentially save three lives.”

A street play directed by Sunil Mukherji and Ravindar Duggal illustrated the importance of voluntary blood donation through real-life scenarios, highlighting the urgent need for donors and the impact of conditions like thalassemia.

The event also showcased MTMC’s commitment to environmental stewardship with a tree planting initiative.

Participants who donated blood were honored by planting trees, symbolizing community growth and support.

Dr. Maheshwar Prasad concluded the event with a vote of thanks, highlighting the importance of community involvement and environmental responsibility in promoting blood donation.

He said: “This event successfully united a diverse group to raise awareness about voluntary blood donation and environmental responsibility, making it a meaningful celebration.”

The celebration underscored the college’s commitment to saving lives and promoting a sense of care for the environment.
