Albania returns to the European stage

This summer, Albania will appear at a major international tournament for the second time.

The Kuqezinjte made their debut on the big European stage at Euro 2016, where they were eliminated in the group stage and finished third behind France and Switzerland.

It is once again a difficult task for Albania after the country had to face reigning European champions Italy, two-time winners Spain and Croatia, runners-up at the 2018 World Cup.

In goal is Brentford’s Thomas Strakosha, while at the top is Armando Broja, the Chelsea striker who spent the second half of last season in an unsuccessful loan spell at Fulham.

Central defender Berat Gjimshiti is the captain of the team. He is one of ten players in this Albanian squad that plays its club football in Italy.

Arsenal’s Jorginho in the Italian squad

The defensive old guard is gone, but there are still representatives of the Italian team that won this competition at Wembley three years ago.

Among them is Jorginho, fresh from a successful first full season at Arsenal.

Leading the charge is another former Premier League player in Gianluca Scamacca, once of West Ham.

Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma is the team captain, Federico Dimarco is fit to play after fitness problems earlier this week.
