Scotland’s response after Euro 2024 was humiliated by Germany

Scots panicked due to nerves in the first matchpublished at 2:09 PM

Former England defender Micah Richards thinks Scotland “panicked” against Germany and suggests nerves got the better of them in the first match.

“It was always going to be difficult against the host nation, Germany, and the players they have now,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast. “I think before the game everyone expected Germany to show up.

“I think they took their moments very well, but the way Scotland set up – they were too deep, they didn’t have a plan B – and Germany took advantage of their mistakes every chance they got.

“From Scotland’s point of view, it won’t get any worse than that. I expected them to do better than that.

“Every time they came out, they rushed. They didn’t have that composure, but that was to be expected. The first game was always going to be nerve-wracking.”
