Lamine Yamal is pleased with his debut victory at the 2024 European Championships

Barcelona star Lamine Yamal was delighted as he made his European Championship debut in Spain’s 3-0 win over Croatia.

La Roja stormed into a three-goal lead at half-time in Berlin as they simply overpowered group rivals Croatia in the opening match of Group B.

Despite not turning 17 until the end of the tournament, Luis de la Fuente stuck to his plan to start Lamine Yamal, and provided an assist for Dani Carvajal’s first ever international goal.

There was almost a fairytale moment in the second half when the teenager was denied a goal, which would have made him the youngest goalscorer in the history of the tournament in addition to being the youngest goalscorer.

He will still break that record if he scores in the coming weeks and he gave a confident assessment of the match in his post-match interview.

“I’m so happy to win and make my debut, but now we’re thinking about the next match. I am here to help the team, both in defense and attack, wherever I am needed,” said Marca.

“We were very effective today thanks to the months of hard work we put in.”

The next match for de la Fuente’s team is a duel with compatriot Italy on June 20 in Gelsenkirchen.
