Quiet night work promised because Sechelt allows different noise rules

The Sechelt Council approved a variance in the noise ordinance, allowing NB Contracting LTD. to complete Inlet Avenue road markings sooner.

The difference was proposed during the Sechelt council’s regular meeting on June 5.

Serge Fjetland, engineering technologist, explained that work along Inlet Avenue is almost complete and planned road markings and striping have been installed, usually completed in the evening, outside of the periods when the noise ordinance applies.

The noise ordinance prohibits construction work that causes noise pollution in the area after 9 p.m.

He explained that the work can be completed in one weeknight, which can be determined based on weather and contractor availability. It is expected that the work will not cause much noise pollution and will have little or no impact on local residents and businesses.

The change will allow the work to take place from 5pm to 2am, once a date has been set.

Council unanimously approved the variance in the noise ordinance without discussion.
