A video recorded from a bus passing the scene showed the deplorable condition of the vehicles involved, which were still at the scene of the accident on Saturday morning. Other images posted by witnesses in the Facebook group “Automobile Accidents” documented the aftermath of the crash, which reportedly involved a Scania truck and two passenger trucks.

“A huge accident took place between Punta Diamante and the entrance of Fomento in Sancti Spíritus. Three trucks were involved. According to the authorities, there have been no fatalities at the moment,” noted Julio César Cárdenas in the aforementioned group.

A witness who passed by the area on Saturday morning indicated that there were many cans on the ground that looked like beer. The son of one of the drivers stated that his father and a friend who was with him suffered only “bruises” but could have died, all because of a “reckless person who was drunk,” the family source said.

“Thank God they are still alive even though the truck is beyond repair,” he added. “His father barely escaped. I was the first to get there. It was a terrible scene; the man’s face was covered in cuts from the glass,” said another person.

One source placed the accident at mile 210 of the highway, near Placetas, and another at mile 311, near Fomento. As of the publication of this report, no further details about the accident are available.
