ICA arrests 6 Vietnamese and 7 Singaporeans suspected of marriage fraud

Sham marriage news: Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers have arrested six Vietnamese women and seven Singaporean men aged between 22 and 32 as part of an enforcement operation.

The 13, who were arrested in raids on both public and private residences in Singapore, will also be investigated for making false claims on their Visit Pass applications.

A syndicate is suspected of organizing marriages of convenience.

On June 6, all thirteen people appeared in court and were charged.

“ICA takes a serious look at individuals who attempt to circumvent our system by entering into marriages of convenience or arranging/helping to obtain immigration facilities in Singapore.”

Anyone found guilty of committing a marriage of convenience faces a $10,000 fine, up to 10 years in prison, or both.

“ICA will continue to take strong enforcement action against erring couples and middlemen.”

Members of the public can report suspected cases of marriages of convenience or other immigration-related offenses online at ica.gov.sg/feedbackform.
