357 kilograms of drugs seized at customs


Customs enforcement teams from the Ministry of Commerce seized 58 kilos of opium gum at Esendere Customs Gate, 226 kilos of marijuana in Kapıkule and 73 kilos of methamphetamine-like drugs in Dilucu.

According to the ministry’s statement, customs enforcement teams from the Ministry of Commerce conducted drug operations at the customs gates of Esendere, Kapıkule and Dilucu.

In the first operation, a suspicious truck was tracked by the Ministry of Commerce Esendere Customs Enforcement, Smuggling and Intelligence teams as it was about to enter Turkey. The first checks were carried out on the truck with a load of raisins in transit through Türkiye. After the scan was performed on the vehicle, which was sent by the teams for X-ray scans, some suspicious images were detected. A detailed search was then conducted by customs enforcement teams using narcotic sniffer dogs.

During the painstaking search by the customs enforcement teams, drug packages professionally hidden in the cardboard boxes containing raisins were discovered. When all boxes of grapes were checked, a total of 58 kilos of opium gum-like drugs hidden in cardboard were seized.

In the teams’ second operation, a truck that arrived at the Kapıkule Customs Gate to enter Turkey was considered suspicious and was closely monitored by the Customs Enforcement Narcotics Units.

After the initial checks by the customs enforcement teams, a suspicious density was detected in the vehicle, which was scanned with an X-ray scan. As a result of a detailed search of the vehicle’s tow truck and trailer, approximately 226 pounds of marijuana was seized in aluminum foil packaging concealed within the legal load transported in the truck’s trailer.

The latest operation by the Ministry of Commerce’s customs enforcement teams was carried out against a truck loaded with “goat hair” that arrived at the Dilucu customs gate.

First of all, the vehicle was considered risky and was sent for X-ray scans. After expert X-ray operators discovered suspicious density in the truck, a detailed investigation was conducted by customs enforcement teams.

After the narcotic sniffer dogs responded to the load of goat hair, samples of the goods were taken and tested. As a result of the test, 73 kilograms of methamphetamine-type drugs mixed with goat hair were seized.

As a result of the operations of the Customs Enforcement teams of the Ministry of Commerce, 357 kilograms of drugs of various types were seized and an investigation was initiated by the Chief Prosecutor’s Office regarding the incidents.
