Texas woman sues resort after husband dies in electrocution incident in jacuzzi in Mexico

A Texas woman is suing a Mexican beach resort after her husband was fatally electrocuted in a hot tub Tuesday night.

Lizzette Zambrano, who is in critical condition in the hospital, is suing Sonoran Sea Resort in Puerto Peñasco for more than $1 million after her husband, Jorge Guillen, 43, was allegedly electrocuted when he entered a jacuzzi at the resort.

According to the lawsuit, Zambrano was shocked when she tried to help Guillen out of the water after he was electrocuted. According to the lawsuit, other resort visitors were also shocked when they tried to pull the couple out of the hot tub.

It is claimed that the resort staff took 10 minutes to respond, and so Guillen was electrocuted for 10 minutes and drowned.

The lawsuit also alleges that the resort should have known about the faulty electrical wiring in the jacuzzi and posted warning signs alerting visitors to the danger.

Following the accident, Zambrano was taken by helicopter to a Phoenix-area hospital where she remains in critical condition, while Guillen was pronounced dead at the scene.

Zambrano is represented by Houston Attorneys Tej Paranjpe and Michael Rodriguez of PMR Law and Charles Bush of Bush & Bush Law Group.

There is no reason why this should have happened,” Paranjpe said. “Hotels and resorts have a duty to ensure the safety of their guests. At no point did the resort staff think to initiate an emergency shutdown, not to mention alert guests to a faulty, dangerous facility.”

According to the lawyers, the Public Prosecution Service of the State of Sonora is still investigating the origin of the electrical discharge.

In the court documents, attorneys also ask the court to prevent the resort from repairing the jacuzzi to preserve evidence of the deadly incident.

Aftermath video of the incident has been circulating on social media and several national news outlets.

In the video, you can see what appears to be dozens of people huddled around a hot tub, frantically looking for help.

Guillen, a Western Tech student who was set to graduate Friday, was honored with a moment of silence during the commencement ceremony.
