Noida: Police have arrested four members of an inter-state ‘thak thak’ gang that stole valuables from parked cars by smashing windows with a slingshot. Two suspects were detained after a shootout on Friday evening and the others on Saturday morning. On Friday evening, Deepak Chauhan alias Nikhil (35) from Govindpuri and Tarun Saxena alias Tannu (30) from Hapur were arrested after an exchange of fire in Sector 129. Following directions from the two, police arrested Jitendra Gautam alias Vinay and Neha Thakur near the roundabout on Saturday Sector 45. Noida Expressway police were conducting a routine check near a local mall on Friday when they stopped the two for wrong driving. “But the suspects tried to escape into the double duty lane of Sector 168. As police chased them, the pillion rider fired at the police, prompting the cops to retaliate,” said Manish Mishra, assistant DCP. On Saturday, Nikhil and Tannu said they had stolen. laptops from parked vehicles near malls and residential areas in Noida. “The gang used slingshots with iron balls and coins to smash car windows and steal laptops, bags and wallets. They then gave the stolen items to Deepak’s wife Neha and Vinay, who sold them on the black market,” the ADCP said. Police have recovered a motorcycle, two illegal .315 bore pistols, five live (3) and spent (2) cartridges, a slingshot with eight iron balls, four laptops with three laptop keyboards, four mobile phones, 21 chargers for mobile phones and laptops , two helmets and Rs 2,916 cash from their possession. They have been booked under relevant IPC sections for theft.
