Red Deer Titans seniors dominate in win over Lethbridge

The Red Deer Titans senior men’s home field advantage has served them well this season.

Through four games in the Calgary Rugby Union men’s development competition, the Titans have won both home games and improved to 2-2.

Despite rainy conditions on Saturday afternoon, the Titans crushed the Lethbridge Rugby Football Club 29-5 at Titans Field.

Titans coach Sean Tindall said his team did exactly what they wanted to do.

“We did everything we wanted in training and I’m very happy with how it turned out. The boys did well,” he said.

“There have been some ups and downs this season. A number of people have been away working and it has been difficult to get everyone in the same place at the same time.”

Normally, he said they field a solid team, but often don’t have enough bench players to support the rest of the team. This has resulted in a few losses on the road, but fortunately they have been successful at home.

“It will be enough to get us through the play-offs, but we just need to develop some depth and get some of the young guys from our youth programs to continue playing with the men,” he said.

“A lot of young kids grow up in Red Deer and move away. Sometimes we have to wait, but we have a good group of core players here. We have the best facilities in central Alberta and there is good rugby being played as we saw today.”
