Doris Elizabeth Hartzel 1929-2024 – Free Press of Franklin County

Doris “Nanny” Elizabeth Hartzel, age 94, Arendtsville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at Gettysburg Hospital.

She was born on October 7, 1929 in Bonneauville, Adams County, PA, the daughter of the late George H. and Marie C. (Keizer) Long.

Doris was a graduate of Delone Catholic High School. She married her late husband, Robert R. Hartzel, Sr. on June 25, 1948. and started her family.

She retired as a head bank teller at ACNB in ​​Arendstville in 1992 after working for almost 40 years.

She was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Church in Orrtanna. She was a lifelong member of the American Legion Post 202 in Gettysburg, Ladies Auxiliary Fire Company in Arendtsville, a leader in Brownies and Girl Scouts, coached girls softball in the area and she volunteered at the church helping with their picnics.

In her spare time, Doris enjoyed sewing, playing marbles, playing bridge, BINGO, jazz music and was known for her dancing. She was an avid sports fan, enjoyed watching the Phillies Baseball Eagles and horse racing.

Her family remembers her as being truly family-oriented, making family meals and cooking for the holidays. She enjoyed spending time with her siblings, grandchildren and relatives. She was an excellent caregiver for her husband when he was ill. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Doris is survived by her loving son, Robert “Bob” R. Hartzel, Jr. from Arendtsville; six grandchildren, Adam S. Tuckey and his partner, Dylan Rabold, Samantha Tuckey, Ryan Hartzel, Tyler Hartzel and his wife, Bryanna, Brooke Hartzel SGT and Justin Hartzel; three great-grandchildren, Hailey, Jade and Harlee Alexandra Rabold-Tuckey; four sisters, Charlotte Folkenroth, Phyllis Chrismer, Darlene Long, Mary Lee Noel; one brother, Joseph Long; and numerous nieces, nephews and great-great-grandfathers.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her infant son, Kenneth R. Hartzel; daughter, Elaine Marie Tuckey and five brothers, Mark, Bernard, Melvin, Levere and Burnell Long.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024 at 1:00 PM. St. Ignatius Loyola Church, 1095 Church Rd, Orrtanna, PA 17353, with Msgr. William Richardson takes the lead.

The funeral will follow Cemetery St. Ignatius Loyola Church.

A public viewing will take place on Thursday, June 20, 2024 from 6:00 PM until the time of Vigil Services at 7:30 PM in Dugan Funeral Home, Inc. Bendersville.
