A sequel to ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ is in the works

It’s one of the most beloved films of the ’00s — and now ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ is getting a sequel.

The 2006 film follows young Andy (Anne Hathaway), who has just graduated from college with a degree in publishing and lands a job as an assistant to influential Anna Wintour-esque fashion editor Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep). Upon release, the film was a huge success, earning Streep an Oscar nomination.

The comedy has been such an enduring success that it has even been adapted into a musical, with songs written by Elton John. The musical premiered in Chicago in 2022 and will be in London’s West End this fall.

However, fans of the film have wondered whether Hathaway and Streep would ever reprise their roles as Andy and Miranda — until now.

The film’s writer, Aline Brosh McKenna, has confirmed that she is writing a sequel. Wendy Finerman, who developed and produced the original, is also attached to the project.

Rumors (though unconfirmed) suggest that the storyline will focus on Streep’s Priestly at the end of her career, as she tackles the decline of the traditional publishing model and comes into direct conflict with her former assistant Emily (Emily Blunt), now a top executive at an advertising agency.

While the project is still in its early stages (the cast hasn’t been confirmed and Disney hasn’t even commented on a potential sequel), fans are already very excited about the prospect.
