Protest against foreign liquor shops, women blocked national highway at Harina in South Tripura district

Women from Harina and Thaibung villages resorted to a roadblock movement on the National Highway near Harina Health Sub-centre in Sabroom to protest the opening of a Foreign Liquor Shop. They alleged that a foreign liquor shop in a densely populated area would destroy the peaceful environment of the area.

Many women came on the National Highway and blocked the road. The movement created a traffic problem as hundreds of cars got stuck on both sides. On receiving the information, the police rushed to the spot and spoke to the agitators. They promised to take up the matter with the higher authorities and the road blockade was lifted.
