WWE May Add New Women’s Titles

Since WWE’s women’s team looks strong and well-rounded, the organization could take advantage of this opportunity by adding more titles to the division.

According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select (courtesy of Subhojeet Mukherjee of Ringside News), WWE has had internal discussions about adding an Intercontinental Women’s Title and a United States Title.

On Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t Mukherjee) Dave Meltzer confirmed that “the addition of two championships” is being discussed, one for each brand.

The current major championships in the WWE women’s division include the World Championship (Raw), the WWE Championship (SmackDown), and the Tag Team Championship (both brands).

Adding titles is a quick way to promote a star by giving him or her a championship, without necessarily having to put him or her in the main match for the other titles.

But there is also a negative effect: if too many stars have a title, the value of all championships can decrease.

To paraphrase Syndrome, it said of The Incredibles: If everyone is super, then no one is.

As with everything in wrestling, the idea isn’t as important as the execution. If Triple H and the creative team have a good plan for introducing new titles and can make them feel important, there’s no reason not to do it.

WWE reportedly interested in signing Joe Hendry

NXT fans got a surprise at the end of Heatwave on Sunday when the face of TNA star Joe Hendry flashed across the screen as the show ended.

According to Corey Brennan of Fightful Select (h/t Steve Carrier of Ringside News), WWE has interest in signing Hendry when he becomes a free agent: “When asked about WWE’s interest in Hendry after his current TNA contract expires, sources were adamant about the answer: ‘who wouldn’t?'”

Brennan, meanwhile, indicated that Hendry will play a major role in the next crossover between NXT and TNA.

Following Ethan Page’s victory in the deciding four-way match for the NXT title, a short video flashed showing Hendry turning to the camera with a wide grin on his face.

Hendry’s debut on NXT on June 18 was less than spectacular, as he was the first person eliminated in a 25-man battle royal to determine the top contender for Trick Williams’ Heatwave title.

He shouted to Frankie Kazarian, who had eliminated him from the battle royale, “this isn’t over yet” as he walked up the ramp.

There was a commercial for NXT during Monday’s episode of Raw that showed the same clip, with Hendry laughing, indicating that he might appear on Tuesday night’s show.

It’s unclear how long Hendry’s TNA contract will run for, but WWE is currently doing everything it can to impress him when he can negotiate a new deal.

Jordynne Grace Reveals TNA Contract Details

Staying with TNA’s stars, current Knockouts World Champion Jordynne Grace could spark a bidding war between several promotions in the near future.

Appears on the Giant Pop Podcast with Matt Morgan (starts at 7:45), Grace revealed that her contract with TNA will expire in January 2025.

Grace didn’t give any details about her future plans, but it’s safe to assume WWE will be interested. She’s been a key figure in the NXT-TNA crossover, starting at the Royal Rumble when she was a surprise entrant in the women’s Rumble match.

WWE brought Grace back in May when she was revealed as the challenger for Roxanne Perez’s NXT Women’s Title at NXT Battleground. Perez won the match to retain her title after interference from Tatum Paxley and Ash By Elegance.

Grace, after an open challenge for the Knockouts Title at Against All Odds, got her revenge when Paxley showed up to answer the call. The Juggernaut pinned Paxley to retain the championship.

Shawn Michaels, who is creative at NXT, has spoken very positively about Grace. It wouldn’t be a surprise if AEW made her an offer, especially now that the women’s division is booked much better.

Whatever happens, Grace will almost certainly have made a lot of money if she becomes a free agent, thanks to her success in TNA and her appearances in NXT.
