Woman, 70, killed in collision with truck in Waterford

A woman has died this morning after the vehicle she was driving collided with a lorry in Waterford.

The incident happened at around 9.20am on the N25 at Garranbane in Dungarvan. The woman, in her 70s, was treated at the scene by emergency services but was later pronounced dead.




The man driving the truck was taken to Waterford University Hospital where he is currently being treated for injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening.

The road remains closed pending the results of the forensic investigation. Local diversions have been put in place.

A total of 100 people have died on Irish roads this year – 13 more than the same period in 2023.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who witnessed this morning’s accident to contact detectives.

“Police are investigating a fatal road traffic collision which occurred near Dungarvan, Co Waterford at approximately 09.20 hours on Tuesday morning, 9 July 2024,” a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said.

“The collision occurred on the N25 near Garranbane and involved a truck and a car.

“The driver of the car, a woman in her 70s, was treated at the scene by emergency services but died from her injuries. The driver of the truck (male) was taken to Waterford University Hospital where he is being treated for injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening,” they added.

“The road remains closed at this time, an investigation is currently underway by Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions remain in place. Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

“All road users who have camera images (including dashcams) and who were driving in the area at the time of the collision are requested to make these images available to the police.”
