Luxury room rates skyrocket ahead of Anant Ambani’s wedding

Room rates and occupancy rates at some of Mumbai’s top luxury hotels are skyrocketing ahead of Anant Ambani’s wedding this week, with hotels experiencing high demand from July 11 to 17. The wedding is reportedly on July 12 at the Jio World Convention Centre in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). There is only one presidential suite with a king bed available at The Four Seasons in Mumbai on July 12, for a whopping Rs 5 lakh per night. This is excluding Rs 90,000 in taxes.

The Trident in Bandra Kurla is not available on Booking.com from July 11-12, while the Sofitel Mumbai BKC is available for Rs 66,434 for a night on July 11. The Trident at Nariman Poin is available for Rs 36,875 for July 11, while the ITC Grand Central is available for Rs 25,370. The Oberoi Mumbai is available for Rs 63,130 and Taj The Trees is available for Rs 42,362. A room at the Holiday Inn at Mumbai International Airport costs Rs 25,699.

“From the 11th to the 17th, there is a spike in demand for hotels in BKC and even around the airport, mainly for chain hotels,” said an industry insider familiar with the matter.

“The Trident BKC is sold out for July 11. A few hotels like the Sofitel, JW Marriott and The Leela are seeing a 25-30% price hike,” said the person cited above.

A spokesperson for one luxury hotel said the property was experiencing high demand and that rates were going up because there were not enough luxury hotels to meet consumer demand. “International chains operate on dynamic pricing. We are almost sold out for the week. Suites are seeing high demand due to the high-profile nature of the guests. We expect rates to stabilize and return to normal after July 20,” the person said.

Some festivities are expected to continue after the wedding on July 12.

The Four Seasons is asking Rs 27,730 for a stay on July 15, while the Sofitel Mumbai BKC costs Rs 24,638.

Around the weekend, the JW Marriott in Juhu is available for Rs 23,600 on July 13, while Taj Lands End is available for Rs 21,028.

Four Seasons Mumbai and chains including IHCL, Marriott International, The Lalit and Leela declined to comment when asked by ET.

Traffic restrictions have reportedly been imposed ahead of the festivities this week and the Mumbai Traffic Police has issued advisories. “A social programme is being organised at Jio World Convention Centre BKC, Mumbai on 5th and 12th to 15th July 2024. The programme will see a large number of guests and VIPs. In order to avoid inconvenience to the people, traffic on the road leading to Jio World Convention Centre will be diverted by issuing a notice,” Mumbai Traffic Police said in a message on X on July 5.
