Students can obtain a bachelor’s and master’s degree in five years

Valley City, ND –Valley City State University (VCSU) today announced an accelerated program for students pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Sport Leadership and Management.

The program includes three years of coursework on the VCSU campus to earn a bachelor’s degree and two years of coursework at North Dakota State University to earn a master’s degree.

“Sports leadership and management is an increasingly popular career path for many students as they seek to work in a wide variety of athletic professions within the sports industry and related fields and make a positive impact in their communities,” said VCSU professor Dr. Rachelle Hunt. “Students can work in a variety of areas with this bachelor’s degree, and pairing it with a master’s from NDSU makes their resumes even stronger.”

Individuals with a degree in Sport Leadership and Management can work in a variety of fields, including athletic director, sports facility/league/event manager, sports marketing specialist, public relations, social media manager, sports coach, sports performance coach, sports business analyst, sports equipment sales/marketing, sports entrepreneur, sports commentator/broadcaster, sports journalist/writer, sports analyst, sports attorney, or sports agent. Market data suggests that the job market in this field is growing in the Midwest and nationwide.

“Working together to provide a clear and accelerated path to bachelor’s and master’s degrees is a great example of how schools in the North Dakota University System can work together to create more opportunities for our students,” said Larry Brooks, vice president for academic affairs. “Our job is to provide educational experiences like this to ensure that students have a strong understanding, background and even a stronger resume when they enter the workforce.”

VCSU also offers numerous certificates and minors to help students achieve their career goals, such as in sports coaching, strength training, fitness training, sports marketing and digital marketing.
