Cybersecurity incident at MediSecure

 …

MediSecure has issued a public notice regarding the nature and scope of the incident. See MediSecure’s statement on the cybersecurity incident.

The affected data relates to prescriptions issued through MediSecure systems up to November 2023.

This service allowed prescriptions to be brought by prescribers to a pharmacy of an individual’s choice (for paper and electronic prescriptions). Until the end of 2023, MediSecure was one of two nationally operating prescription delivery services.

In May 2023, the Australian government completed a tender for this service, which was awarded exclusively to another company, eRx Script Exchange (eRx) of Fred IT Group.

The national prescription delivery service, eRx, is not affected by this cyber incident. Consumers can continue to access medicines safely and healthcare providers can still prescribe and dispense as usual.

Prescriptions will continue to work as normal. People should continue to have access to their medications and fill their prescriptions. This includes prescriptions (paper and electronic) that may have been written up until November 2023.
