Delhi Metro to begin work on two new lines by end-2024 – Discover routes, stations and where to change – Infrastructure News

Construction work on two new Delhi Metro corridors is likely to begin by the end of this year, Indian Express reported citing officials. The new corridors fall under Phase IV and will run from Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block and from Indraprastha to Inderlok.

Together they cover a total length of 20.70 kilometres and provide connectivity to various parts of South and Central Delhi.

Progress so far

The DMRC has expedited the preparatory work on the corridors. For the alignment work, surveys and studies are being carried out to assess the routes, the connecting points and the legal clearances required for the sections, have been completed, the officials told IE.

According to officials, the DMRC is currently in the process of obtaining necessary legal clearances from various departments.

“DMRC is in the process of obtaining legal permissions including land acquisition from the concerned authorities. Also, permissions for forest clearance and felling of trees are being given at appropriate levels,” a senior DMRC official said.

The officials also indicated that planning and tendering of civil works are progressing.

“The work is proceeding at a very rapid pace… the aim is to get permission soon, by the end of this year, and start construction,” the official added.

Delhi Metro: Lajpat to Saket

The Lajpat Nagar to Saket G corridor will provide connectivity to Andrews Ganj, Greater Kailash 1, Chirag Dilli, Pushpa Bhawan, Pushp Vihar, Saket District Centre and Saket G Block. It will have interchange facilities for the Yellow, Magenta, Pink and Violet lines.

Delhi Metro: Indraprastha Corridor

Meanwhile, the Indraprastha corridor will connect several important locations including government offices (Delhi Secretariat), a railway station (Sarai Rohilla) and a major hospital (Lok Nayak), as well as areas such as New Delhi, Nabi Karim, Dilli Gate, Daya Basti and Ajmal Khan Park.

This corridor will also be the first Delhi Metro line to have frequent interchange stations. It will have 10 stations over a 12-kilometre stretch. Out of these, interchange facility will be provided at five stations – Blue Line (Delhi to Noida/Vaishali), Pink (Majlis Park to Maujpur), Magenta (Botanical Garden to Janakpuri), Yellow (Gurgaon to Samaypur Badli) and Red (Rithala to Ghaziabad New Bus Adda).
