The District just missed 90 on Friday for a second day in a row. Today should be a third straight without reaching the mark, and with ease. So, do we call it a cool wave? Pondering that, there is also hope for some rain today and again at times in the next couple. Given that much of the region remains rather parched, we’ll take it, even if the timing could be better.

Today (Saturday): It’s a tricky forecast for the short term: It remains somewhat uncertain if and where the heaviest rain will fall, but odds tend to favor south and east over north and west. Somewhere like Southern Maryland may have the best odds in the region to see anything substantial. Highs range from near 80 to the mid-80s, depending on clouds and rain coverage. Confidence: Medium

Tonight: There may be a shower lingering into the night, especially east. Otherwise, increasing breaks in the clouds with time as lows reach the upper 60s and lower 70s. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Sunday): Mainly sunny skies close out the weekend. When we get full sunshine this time of year, it tends to be on the hot side. So, near 90 to low 90s locally shouldn’t be too surprising. A light south wind continues pumping higher moisture in, as well. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Clouds increase somewhat, but it should end up no worse than partly clear. Lows are mostly in the near 70 to mid-70s range. Confidence: Medium

A look ahead

Partial sunshine is a good bet for much of Monday. Highs are mainly in the 80s to around 90. Some showers or storms are again likely to visit the area, diminishing into the night. Confidence: Medium

Pretty similar for Tuesday, with maybe a lesser chance of rain and fewer clouds. If so, temperatures head up a notch but still within a few degrees of 90. Additional showers and storms may pop up, especially in the afternoon into evening. Confidence: Medium
