228 Bank Recovery cases settled amicably in Special Lok Adalat

Under the patronage of Justice Tashi Rabstan, Chief Justice (Acting), High Court of J&K and Ladakh (Patron and Executive Chairman, J&K Legal Services Authority) and under the able leadership of Justice Sindhu Sharma, Chairman, High Court Legal Services Committee, a Special Lok Adalat was organised today, Saturday, 20th July 2024, across the UT of J&K with special emphasis on amicable settlement of bank recovery cases pending for disposal by various courts in UT of J&K. This was the 7th Special Lok Adalat of the current calendar year.

As per data from various District Legal Services Authorities in the UT of J&K, a total of 885 cases were heard in the Special Lok Adalat out of which 228 cases were settled amicably, reaching a total amount of Rs.5,23,66,443/-, which was a huge relief to the litigants.

J&K Legal Services Authority Secretary Amit Kumar Gupta told the media that this was the 7th Special Lok Adalat of the current calendar year and the next Special Lok Adalat will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024, with a focus on settlement of criminal cases through compoundable settlement. He urged the lawyers in general and the litigants in particular to take maximum benefit from such Special Lok Adalats organised by the J&K Legal Services Authority.

He appreciated the efforts of all judicial officers, secretaries of DLSA, advocates, staff of district and tehsil courts and legal service institutions besides the litigants for their full participation in the Special Lok Adalat and making possible the settlement of such a large number of cases. He also acknowledged the role of Para Legal Volunteers and media, both print and electronic, in creating and spreading awareness among the masses about such initiatives of the Legal Services Authority.
