Manolo Marquez was officially appointed as the head coach of the Indian senior football team on Saturday. Marquez succeeds Igor Stimac, who was sacked as the Blue Tigers’ head coach after the team failed to qualify for the third round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) confirmed the development in a press release after the Executive Committee meeting chaired by AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey.

Marquez, who is also the head coach of FC Goa in the Indian Super League, will continue to hold his responsibilities concurrently before becoming India’s full-time head coach at the end of the domestic season next year. “During the 2024-25 season, Mr. Marquez will continue in his role as first-team head coach at FC Goa, holding both responsibilities concurrently before assuming the role of national coach on a full-time basis,” an AIFF press release said.
