Smriti Mandhana gives Sri Lankan fan a gift

Watch: In a moment of joy, India vice-captain Smriti Mandhana gifted a mobile phone to a young Sri Lankan fan with a disability after the reigning champions convincingly defeated Pakistan in the season opener of the 2024 Women’s Asia Cup on Friday (July 19).

Mandhana had a surprise in store for a special fan after India defeated Pakistan by seven wickets in the opening match of the Women’s Asia Cup yesterday.

A viral video shared by Sri Lanka Cricket showed the Indian vice-captain gifting a phone to a young girl in a wheelchair, Adeesha Herath. Mandhana was seen talking to her about whether she enjoyed the match before giving her a high-five. To make her day even more special, she took a picture with the child and her mother and concluded with a handshake.

In the match, India defeated Pakistan for 108, thanks to an all-round effort from the bowlers, with Deepti Sharma as the star performer (3-20). In response, India started strongly, riding on an 85-run opening stand between Mandhana (40 off 29) and Shafali Verma (45 off 31). They shot down the target in 14.1 overs with seven wickets to spare.
