NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University swimming and diving program, led by head coach Amanda Caldwellannounced the recruitment of Canaan Campbell as assistant coach of the program.

“I am thrilled that Canaan is joining our program,” Coach Caldwell exclaimed emphatically! “His arrival will bring a wave of experience and enthusiasm that will set the stage for an exciting school year.”

Campbell spent the last four years at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri as an assistant coach for the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams, working primarily with the mid-distance/stroke group. For the past two years, Lindenwood has competed in the Summit League Conference, finishing second in the men’s division and third in the women’s division both seasons. Prior to its move to Division I, Lindenwood was a Division II postseason regular. The program won the 2021 Women’s Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship and later took fourth place at the 2021 Division II Nationals, the highest finish in school history. During those four years, Campbell coached numerous Division II All-Americans, Conference Champions at the Division II and Division I levels, and the 2023 CSCAA National Invitational Champion in the men’s 100 IM, while being part of a staff that was named Coach of the Year three times (2021 GLVC Women, 2023 Summit League Men, 2024 Summit League Men).

In addition to his role at Lindenwood, Campbell has served as the national coach for Parkway Swim Club for the past 1.5 years after serving as an assistant for two years. Campbell led Parkway Swim Club to the 2024 Summer Sectionals Combined Championship for the first time in 19 years, with the men’s team finishing second and the women’s team fourth. During that tenure, he has multiple US Open, Junior National, and Futures qualifiers and set multiple club and Ozark LSC records.

Prior to Lindenwood, Campbell was a graduate assistant at Georgia Southern University, where he worked under Coach Caldwell during the 2019-20 season and earned his Master’s Degree in Coaching Education. He was a four-year letterwinner at Missouri State University and a member of the 2018 Mid-American Conference Championship team, while also being named the 2018 Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Originally from Lawrence, Kansas, Campbell graduated from Lawrence Free State High School in 2014. He is a member of the College Swim Coaches Association of America and a certified USA Swimming Coach. Campbell was recently named a 2024 recipient of the Jean Freeman Scholarship.

The Tulane swimming program had an outstanding 2023-24 season, resulting in 64 personal bests, 31 all-time top 10 school scores, four school records, an AAC individual title, an AAC Freshman of the Year Award, 11 National Invite Championship Qualifiers, a Zone Diver Qualifier, and an NCAA qualifier. The program returns 13 swimmers and divers from last season and brings in a newcomer class of 11 for Coach Caldwell’s third season in charge of the program. The program will host three meets in 2024, beginning on September 27th against Vanderbilt. The program will also travel, visiting the states of Virginia, Texas, Ohio, North Carolina, and Florida during the regular season.
