Priyanka Goswami hails from Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh and enrolled for athletics in class 9. Her coach earlier suggested that she enroll in the walking category. She followed her coach’s advice and inadvertently won a medal in race walking.

The 28-year-old Indian athlete comes from a modest background and her family was struggling financially. She was appointed as a clerk in the Indian Railways.

In 2017, she won a medal at the National Championship. At the Open Indian Championship, held in Ranchi in February 2021, Priyanka set a new Indian record of 1:28.45sec in the 20 km race walk.

At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Priyanka represented India in the women’s 20 km race walk. She won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games. Priyanka also won a silver medal at the Asian Championships.

Paris Olympic Games Qualification

Priyanka Goswami secured a spot at the 2024 Paris Olympics after clearing the qualifying cut-off for the 20km race walk at last year’s India Open National Racewalking competition in Ranchi.

Priyanka Goswami, along with Akshdeep Singh, earned the quota for the Paris 2024 Olympics after finishing 18th in the mixed marathon race walking relay at the World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships held in Antalya earlier this year. The Indian duo had clocked 3:05.03 to claim the quota for the Olympics.

Recent performances

Priyanka Goswami’s last appearance was at the World Race Walking Team Championships in Antalya, where she teamed up with Akshdeep Singh to clock 3:05:03s to complete the 42.195km race in 18th place. This helped the Indian pair advance to the 2024 Paris Olympics for the Mixed Marathon Race Walking Relay event.
