New Delhi, July 20: As announced by the All-India Football Federation (AIFF), FC Goa head coach Manolo Marquez will be taking charge of the Indian senior national football team. At the same time, he will be in charge of the Gaurs in the upcoming 2024-25 ISL season. Lallianzuala Chhangte and Indumathi Kathiresan win the ‘Player of the Year’ award at the AIFF Awards 2023-24.

“Manolo Marquez will continue to lead our club. We see him as a vital part of the winning culture that we are building here at FC Goa. We have always held the good of Indian football in our hearts and have always been avid supporters of it. And we felt that this was the step we had to take in the best interest of the Indian national team. We have always strived to be a club that allows individuals within our organisation to strive for greater heights and this is in line with that ideology,” FC Goa CEO Ravi Puskar told the FC Goa media team.

This significant development follows requests from the All-India Football Federation (AIFF) to coach Marquez to bring his expertise and leadership qualities to the national team. The AIFF Executive Committee meeting, chaired by President Kalyan Chaubey, was held at the Football House.

The Spaniard led FC Goa to third place in the 2023-24 Indian Super League (ISL) and to the semi-finals of the Durand Cup and the ISL Cup play-offs in his first season as manager of the club. He will serve in the dual role until the end of the 2024-25 season before taking full-time charge of the national team. Jeakson Singh reflects on his departure from Kerala Blasters FC and says: ‘It’s time to say goodbye’.

“He is a figure who commands respect in the Indian football community – be it players, coaches or other stakeholders. He is familiar with Indian culture. I hope these qualities bring success to him and the national team,” Puskur added.
