Five people are hospitalized, two in critical condition, after a food truck exploded in Whittier on Saturday morning, July 20, authorities said.

Los Angeles County firefighters were called to the 6700 block of Greenleaf Avenue for a report of an explosion, said Robert Diaz, a dispatch supervisor.

Diaz said the food truck was believed to be in front of a coffee shop.

In addition to the two people with serious injuries, there were two others with moderate injuries and one with minor injuries, Diaz said.

What caused the explosion was not known. Additional information was not immediately available.
