Late Break Doesn’t Slow Thorpedo Anna in CCA Oaks

Quickly recovering after a slow start, Thorpedo-Anna caught up in the front running Leslie’s rose and sailed to victory over Sugared in the $500,000 Coaching Club American Oaks (G1) on July 20 at Saratoga Race Course.

It was her fourth win in as many starts this year and her third consecutive Grade 1, following comfortable victories in the Acorn Stakes (G1) and Kentucky Oaks (G1).

She raced 1 1/8 miles on a fast track in 1:50.95. She was the undisputed leader in the 3-year-old filly class and paid $2.50 to win.

Kenny McPeek trains the daughter of Fast Anna for owners Nader Alaali, Mark Edwards, Judy Hicks and Sherri McPeek’s Magdalena Racing. Hicks also bred the mare, who is 5-1-0 in six total starts.

Complicated recovered and took third place, while Leslie’s Rose was tired.
