OCSD warns of a scam going on in the area

The scammers pose as employees of the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department and spoof the office’s phone number.

OKTIBBEHA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – The Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department wants you to be aware of a scam going on in the area.

The scammers pose as employees of the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department and spoof the office’s phone number.

The Sheriff’s Department will never ask for or accept payment over the phone, nor will they ask you to purchase gift cards, prepaid debit cards, or bitcoins.

The department says they can call you for police matters, but they always want to discuss it in person.

If you have any doubts about the identity of the person calling, hang up and call the sheriff’s office or the non-emergency 911 center at 662-338-1084 and ask to speak to an officer.

Never agree to pay a specific amount of money in any way unless you do so personally.

Never give out personal information such as your social security number or credit card number over the telephone.
