Helpful Honda Free Ice Cream truck takes orders during National Ice Cream Day opening weekend

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Want free ice cream this summer? A local initiative is giving away free ice cream to the community through August.

To kick off National Ice Cream Day, which falls on Sunday, July 21, San Diego Honda Dealers’ helpful Honda Free Ice Cream van visited community members in San Diego and Carlsbad.

According to San Diego Honda Dealers, the free ice cream truck will visit communities across San Diego County on weekends through August as part of their Random Acts of Helpfulness initiative.

The free ice cream truck is filled with free frozen treats like bomb pops, big dippers, fruit bars, ice cream sandwiches, cookies n’ cream bars and more, according to the organization. The truck will make stops at various community events, parks, sporting events and neighborhood gatherings.

The helpful Honda Free Ice Cream van is answering requests from the public about where to go. Leave a comment on their Facebook page at Facebook.com/SDHondaDealers and they might come to you or your event.

On Friday morning, the ice cream truck visited Civita Park, Cabrillo Heights Park and Easting Park in San Diego, and on Saturday, Aviara Community Park, Alga Norte Park and Batiquitos Lagoon Family Walk, Nature Center, in Carlsbad.
