Gunners ‘closing in on £45m Riccardo Calafiori’, Eze ‘interest’, Eddie Nketiah ‘pray’

Bayern raid

Arsenal could raid Bayern Munich for Leroy Sane, according to reports.

Spanish media have suggested the Gunners are considering a swoop for the flying winger, who has just 12 months left on his contract.

There is a belief that the German international could be signed for a reduced fee because of that.

Mikel Arteta is in the market for a new winger, with Nico Williams, Pedro Neto and Raphinha all recently linked.

Preseason action

ARSENAL fielded a starting XI worth nearly £230million in transfer fees in Saturday’s secret pre-season friendly against Leyton Orient.

Gabriel Jesus and Martin Odegaard led the way as Mikel Arteta’s men secured a 2-0 victory in a behind-closed-doors friendly at London Colney – now known as the Sobha Realty Training Centre.

League One Orient put in a brave showing against their London rivals, who scored through Jesus and sub Emile Smith Rowe.

But Arsenal were too strong thanks to an incredible starting XI featuring nine senior stars.

Karl Hein got the nod in goal, with Ben White and Jurrien Timber getting nods in defense.

Thomas Partey, Fabio Vieira and Odegaard were selected as Arsenal’s midfield three.

While a formidable attack of Reiss Nelson, Eddie Nketiah and Jesus led the line up front.

Also getting a start was 17-year-old defender Ayden Heaven.

While midfielder Myles Lewis-Skelly, also 17, appeared to operate as a hybrid left-back.

Final stages

Arsenal’s £45m deal with Bologna for versatile defender Riccardo Calafiori is into the final stages.

The two clubs have agreed on the fee after a sell-on clause was added.

Personal terms are not thought to be a problem.

The only part of the deal remaining involves Calafiori’s former club Basel.

When they sold him to Bologna, the Swiss side inserted a 50 per cent sell-on clause, which the Italian’s are now trying to negotiate down.

Calafiori signing praised

Ex-Arsenal star Bacary Sagna is pleased his former club are closing in on a £45m deal for Riccardo Calafiori.

He told Paddy Power: “Calafiori is very good and I’ve followed him a lot in Serie A this season.

“I’ve seen a lot of Bologna games, and he’s one of the reasons they were able to qualify for the Champions League.

“He’s calm and composed on the ball – he can break lines by committing and help the side out offensively.

“He’d be a fantastic player for Arsenal – any club he would join, he would be a fantastic addition.”

Fabregas country’s first job as manager

Cesc Fabregas has been appointed Como manager.

The ex-Arsenal and Chelsea star initially arrived last summer to take charge of their Under-19s team.

He was then promoted to first-team coach and then interim boss last season.

And he has now landed the job on a full-time basis following their promotion to Serie A.

Como have already signed ex-Premier League stars Pepe Reina and Alberto Moreno, while they remain in pole position to sign Raphael Varane.

United set to poach Arsenal wonderkid

Man Utd are reportedly “confident” they can sign teen sensation Chido Obi-Martin from Arsenal.

The promising striker is viewed as one of the brightest talents in England.

The 16-year-old caught the attention after he scored TEN goals in a single youth game against Liverpool last season.

Obi-Martin has supposedly rejected a contract offer Arsenal deemed “fair”.
