Coast Guard makes three for microphone

The most expensive yearling of Darley Stud’s Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes winner, Microphone, Coast Guard, was good in the 1500m maiden at Hawkesbury on Sunday at his third start.

Under the direction of Tommy Berry for Peter and Paul Snowden, the Coast Guard followed the initial speed of Sizzling Tale and Kings Castle (FR).

The 2-year-old son of Microphone splinted the pair on the straightening and was three lengths clear of his erratic stablemate Strong Trade (Written Tycoon), with the 3-year-old mare Shine Like It Does (Churchill) in third.

Coast Guard was purchased for $750,000 by China Horse Club/Newgate/Go/Trilogy at the Newhaven Park draw at the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. He is the first foal by the Quality Road mare South Of France (USA).

South Of France purchased Sheamus Mills Bloodstock for US$150,000 at the 2019 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale and won three races, highlighted by the Listed Tepin Stakes at Aqueduct, where he was trained by Todd Pletcher.

The American import scored another goal when her Trapeze Artist mare was sold to Yulong’s Highway Farm for $410,000 after being transferred by Newhaven Park to the 2024 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

South Of France (USA) has a foal by Stay Inside and was absent last spring.

Coast Guard is the third winner of the season for Microphone (Exceed And Excel), which is worth $22,000 in 2024.
