California woman dies after passing out in Kauai Bay

A 56-year-old tourist from California died Friday after he was found unresponsive in the water of Hanaka’ape Bay in Koloa, Kauai County police said today.

Police said emergency responders were dispatched to Hanaka’ape Bay, also known as Koloa Landing, around 9:45 a.m. Friday morning after being alerted to an unresponsive swimmer.

According to police, bystanders performed CPR until emergency services arrived and took over.

She was taken to Wilcox Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead later that evening.

The woman’s identity was not immediately released.

Police said an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death, but no foul play is suspected.
