Obituary Bob Bourdet – Novato, CA (1942-2024)

Bob passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 14, 2024. Bob was born on June 23, 1942 to Maxine and Rene Bourdet at French Hospital in San Francisco. His father’s family owned the Cerciat French Laundry, the largest laundry in San Francisco. He grew up in the Outer Mission and enjoyed growing up in the city in the 1950s. Bob attended Epiphany Grammar School and Riordan High School. He began his lifelong career in the electrical industry in 1961 as an apprentice electrician with IBEW Local 6. Bob worked as an apprentice, journeyman, and foreman electrician. After an industrial accident, he was able to enter the management side of the business at Collins Electric as an estimator and project manager. He then worked for Northern Electric for six years. Bob then moved to W. Bradley Electric where he worked for over thirty years, eventually becoming Electrical Division Manager and Vice President. He semi-retired in 2016. He continued working part-time until December 2023. In 1968, Bob was asked by Local 6 of the IBEW to teach apprentice electricians at night school. He earned a Lifetime Teaching Credential for Vocational Education from the University of California. Bob would teach a total of 1,032 students for 46 years. In addition to working during the day and teaching apprentices two nights a week, Bob was asked by the San Francisco Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association to teach electrical estimating to employees of contractors. Bob taught estimating to a total of 732 students from 108 electricians in the Bay Area for 32 years. He also taught estimating for the Redwood Empire Chapter of NECA for many years. Bob has received many awards, but most notably, recognition from the San Francisco Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for 52 years in the electrical industry, 45 years as an instructor at SFJATC, and 34 years as an instructor with the San Francisco Electrical Contractors Association. He is survived by his wife Kathryn Lundburg Bourdet, his brother Rene Bourdet, daughters Bridgette Porterfield (Rick), Jessica Bourdet (Chris), Shannon Palombo (Carlos), son Robert Bourdet Jr. and nine grandchildren. A celebration of Bob Bourdet’s life is planned for later this year.
