Newlywed Indian man shot dead in US after suspected road rage incident

Washington, July 21 (PTI) A 29-year-old newlywed of Indian origin was shot dead in front of his wife in a suspected road rage incident in the US state of Indiana, police and media reported.

The incident occurred as Gavin Dasaur was walking home with his Mexican wife. Officer Amanda Hibschman of the Indianapolis Police Department (IMPD) said officers responded to a report of a person shot just after 8 p.m. Tuesday at an intersection on the southeast side of Indy City.

Arriving officers said they found a man lying on the ground in the middle of the road with at least one gunshot wound. The man’s wife identified the victim of the shooting.

“I held him as he bled to death and waited for the ambulance,” said the victim’s widow, Viviana ZaMora. The Indianapolis StarDasaur, who was reportedly from Agra, and Viviana ZaMora had just married on June 29, just over two weeks before his death.

Witnesses told police the shooting followed a road rage incident between the Chevy driver and Dasaur, who was driving a black Honda, WATHR defeated.

The suspected shooter, Hibschman said, was taken into custody at the scene. “After further investigation and consultation with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, that individual was released,” the police spokesman said, indicating the shooter may have acted in self-defense.

According to IMPD, the investigation into the shooting and alleged road rage incident is ongoing.

Dasaur’s wife condemned the shooting as she mourned the death of her husband. “He was a hardworking man who always did his best to help everyone and wanted to give the world to me and his family,” she told the local outlet.

Cellphone video recorded by another driver at the scene shows Dasaur getting out of his car at the intersection. Dasaur appears enraged and yells at the driver of the pickup truck, Fox news reported.

A gun is clearly visible in Dasaur’s right hand. As he approaches the driver’s side of the pickup truck, Dasaur strikes the door of the truck with the gun in his hand. Dasaur then switches the gun to his left hand while simultaneously moving his right hand to the window of the truck.

The driver of the pickup truck responds by firing three shots. Dasaur immediately falls to the ground. The shooter never got out of his vehicle during the confrontation that lasted only seven seconds.
