The move comes as Arsenal look to bolster their goalkeeping following the departures of Sabrina D’Angelo and Kaylan Marckese. The club’s reliance on stand-in goalkeepers during their recent tour of Australia, including Sarah Bouhaddi and young talent Naomi Williams, highlighted the need for reinforcements.

Van Domselaar, who joined Aston Villa last summer after a successful six-year spell at FC Twente, is widely regarded as one of the best female goalkeepers in the world. Her stellar performances since becoming a regular for the Dutch national team have made her a sought-after talent.

This transfer is seen as an ideal match for both parties. Arsenal, led by manager Jonas Eidevall, are looking for a top goalkeeper to compete with Manuela Zinsberger. The arrival of Van Domselaar is expected to provide much-needed competition and depth in that position.

Financial details of the transfer have not yet been disclosed, but it is known that Van Domselaar’s contract with Aston Villa expires in mid-2026.

Daphne van Domselaar, born on March 6, 2000, started her football career at LSVV in Zuid-Scharwoude. Her natural talent and ability to learn quickly were evident at a young age. She went through the youth academy and played for the Telstar academy before joining FC Twente in 2017.

Van Domselaar’s breakthrough came during the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 Championship, where she showed her exceptional qualities as a goalkeeper for the Dutch national team. Her performances attracted the attention of several clubs, but she chose to stay with FC Twente for another season.

In late 2022, Van Domselaar became the only Eredivisie player to be included in The Guardian’s prestigious list of the world’s 100 best female footballers. Her consistent displays of brilliance have cemented her reputation as a top-class goalkeeper.
