Central Police Officer and Citizen Hit by Pickup Truck Sunday Morning

CENTRAL, La. (BRPROUD) — A Central Police Department officer was struck by a vehicle Sunday morning.

According to police, Officer Tim Gilbert was conducting a routine traffic stop on the Central Thruway when a northbound Ford F-150 pickup truck struck Gilbert and other civilians at the scene in the passenger window. The driver of the pickup truck failed to stop after the crash.


Another Central Police officer was able to stop the Ford F-150 at the intersection of Central Thruway and Greenwell Springs Road. The officer noted that they saw signs of impairment on the driver’s part, police said.

The Louisiana State Police were notified to take over the investigation as a Central Police officer was involved.

According to the CPD, Gilbert and the civilians were not seriously injured.

No further details were immediately available. This is an ongoing investigation.
