Chisholm dedicates truck to Alzheimer’s awareness

The council’s new dump truck has become a symbol of the community’s involvement in the cause

Chisholm Council recently purchased a new dump truck and decided to dedicate it to a good cause: raising awareness for the Alzheimer Society.

First, the city had the new truck painted blue, the official color of the Alzheimer Society Canada. To top it all off, a large decal was added to the back of the truck. It reads, “We support Alzheimer’s Awareness” and in a script font, “Love is not a memory, it’s a feeling.”

Last fall, Chisholm purchased a new dump truck for the Public Works Department. The new purchase included a paint color of the city’s choosing, and the Public Works crew saw it as an opportunity to promote a good cause.

The idea was presented to the council, which decided to involve the community in selecting the business and the color that would represent it. After considering the options, the Public Works team chose to support Alzheimer’s Awareness.

Chisholm Mayor Gail Degagne noted in a press release that “the community had some really great ideas about what causes the municipality could support with our new truck livery.”

“I am proud that the Public Works Department made the final decision to choose Alzheimer’s as our charity,” added Mayor Degagne.

The truck arrived last December and made a grand entrance at the annual Walk for Alzheimer’s in North Bay this past May. The walk was a success, raising $23,935 locally and just under $60,000 in our chapter.

“The event brought together families, friends and community members in a show of support and solidarity for those living with dementia,” said Caroline Piquette, Marketing & Communications Coordinator for the Alzheimer Society Sudbury-Manitoulin North Bay & Districts.
