Hypocrites and other insiders help spread news of Biden withdrawal – Deseret News

Some of the sports world’s most prominent insiders told a very different story on Sunday when they posted about President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 election.

Sports reporters like The Athletic’s Shams Charania and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport weren’t the first to report on X, but they still brought the news to the attention of thousands of American sports fans who don’t follow politics as closely as the NBA or NFL.

“I learned about one of the most important moments in recent American political history via an NBA Twitter alert,” CBS Sports’ Sam Quinn posted, echoing a sentiment shared by many on X on Sunday afternoon.

After the initial wave of breaking news stories emerged, top sports reporters continued to cover Biden’s news, joking about how his decision would be viewed if it came from a star athlete or coach.

“Does this mean Joe Biden is in the transfer portal?” asked Action Network’s Brett McMurphy.

“If this were college football, you would hear, ‘A national search will be launched immediately.’ ‘We have hired Turnkey to assist with the search.’ ‘It is more important now than ever that you support us collectively,’” said Stewart Mandel of The Athletic.

According to John Talty of 247 Sports and CBS Sports, political reporters now have better insight into the problems sports reporters face when a coach is in trouble.

“Political reporters around the world just learned a lesson that college football fans know all too well: Once the pros start leaking that they want you out, you’re done for,” Talty said.
